Assessment #2:Easy CBMMiddle of the Year (MOY) and End of the Year (EOY)
The Easy CBM assessment measures students foundational skillsaligned to Common Core State Standards in reading and math. Specifically, the assessment measures each student's ability to identify letter sounds, phoneme segmenting fluency, word reading fluency, ability to add and subtract numbers 1 - 10 using manipulatives, ability to recognize two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, and ability to use standard units of measurement. This assessment is given in the middle and end of the year to chart students' growth throughout the year. The middle of the year (MOY) and end of the year (EOY) assessment determines the placement of students during small group and whole group work and allows me to scaffold plans for instruction and instructional strategiesappropriately to build on each student's demonstrated knowledge of the foundational skills measured.
Skills Measured:
Students' ability to identify letter sounds.
Students' phoneme segmenting fluency.
Students' word reading fluency.
Students' ability to add and subtract numbers 1 - 10 using manipulatives.
Students' ability to recognize two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes.
Students' ability to use standard units of measurement.
Easy CBM is a computer generated assessment created by the University of Oregon. Based on students' performance on skills measured students are placed into three groups: low risk, some risk and high risk.
Low Risk
Reading
Low risk are on or above grade level readers for the Easy CBM assessment. Similar to the Kindergarten BOY Quick Assessment from the Easy CBM assessment I determine on or above grade level students from the average percentage of each section, including phoneme segmenting, word reading fluency, and letter sounds. For example, above grade level (90% or above), on grade level (75 % to 89%), and below grade level (74% or below).
Math
Low risk are above grade level or on grade level mathematicians for the Easy CBM assessment. Similar to the Kindergarten BOY Quick Assessmentfrom the Easy CBM assessment I determine on or above grade level students from the final grade of the assessment. For example, above grade level (90% or above), on grade level (75 % to 89%), and below grade level (74% or below).
Some Risk
Reading
Some risk is a below grade level reader. A student will display some risk if the student scores 74% or below in more than one section measured.
Math
Some risk is a below grade level mathematician. A student will display some risk on the math assessment, if the student scores 74 % or below on the assessment.
High Risk
Reading
High risk is a below grade level student, in addition to a student who does not display familiarity with any of the skills measured. To receive a high risk Easy CBM indication the student scored 74 % or below on each section.
Math
High risk is a below grade level student, in addition to a student who does not display familiarity with any of the skills measured. To receive a high risk Easy CBM indication the student scored 74 % or below on the assessment.
Easy CBM Class Profile Report
The Easy CBM class profile report is computer generated following teacher submission of student results. The class report allows me to identify student performance in each category measured on Easy CBM assessment: letter sounds, word reading fluency, phoneme segmenting, and math. Additionally, the class report provides suggested progress monitoring for students who demonstrate some or high risk. The progress monitoring suggested for students is important supplemental instruction, which supports student growth on upcoming Easy CBM assessments. The below document is an example of an Easy CBM reading class profile report.
Teacher Created Excel Class Profile
To add comprehensive data submissions to my data binder, I also organize data into excel sheets to organize student performance overtime. The excel sheets are posted in my classroom data binder to communicate student performance with school administration and community stakeholders. Creating excel spreadsheets allows me to identify classroom trends and adjust instruction accordingly.
Easy CBM Parent Report
The Easy CBM Parent Report is computer generated and allows me to communicate student results with families to demonstrate foundational skill growth throughout the year with easy to read graphs, tables and color coding. Following each Easy CBM assessment, I send home the student report and use the reports during parent-teacher conferences to facilitate constructive dialogue for each student's foundational skill growth.
