The Kindergarten journal creates a meaningful writing experience for each child throughout the year. Specifically, this experience encourages students to grow as independent writers and thinkers. During the second half of the year, in addition to the weekly homework packet students complete one journal entry of choice. The journal entry encourages students to use their phonetic awareness to write words and complete sentences, to share their thoughts.
The example journal entry in the image to the right is a student response to the question would you travel to Mars. The student responded that he would go to Mars because he believes, "it would be a big step for new discoveries." From this journal entry, I am able to check-in on the student's written expression, in addition to his personal thoughts on different classroom discussions and explorations. |
